Idea Napkin No. 2

My name is Brian Do Kim and I am a student at University of Florida. I will be graduating in 2017 with focus on business administration. I believe my talents are in the field of sales with experience in ethnic diversity and multicultural traditions with concentration mainly in the Asian countries. I have a deep understanding of the global market place and have hands on practice when it comes to undertaking business deals with wholesalers, distributors and even big companies that come to the states for trade. Through experiences, I know how people from Asia like the work to be done. Accommodating to their needs and wants is my main focus.

After years of working, I noticed that people that come abroad for business trips would love to see the rest of the country they traveled long for. You have to understand, a trip to the states is no easy venture. They dedicate a lot of time and money just to come see a convention, business meeting, or a facility of a company in the states. Truth be told, the meeting or convention only lasts a small chunk of their time in the states and the rest of the time they have they might just spend it at the resort hotel that they are staying in. That is where my business idea of a travel agency comes in. With a friendly smile, a tour guide who speaks your language will meet you in the lobby and take you to places that they only seen in movies or read. Trip is ran on an itinerary or a trip plan. They are able to pick and choose the areas they want to see from a list of tourist allures. This is not only a plan for Florida but for all major cities that have major pull for conventions and business meetings. I’ve heard people say that because of the advancement in technology, the need to fly globally for business will no longer be needed but I disagree. There is something priceless and treasured in meeting face to face and shaking hands with the people you work with and it is a touch that that web communication cannot give.

I believe my business is different from other travel agencies because it will accommodate to business men and women, company outings, and plus any other tourists that would like to join. I think pairing up with conventions around the US, working with and knowing their schedules will have a advantage over the other agencies. I believe scheduling is a huge issues when it comes to traveling for business so accommodating and adjusting to each individual/company will be huge.

I think what sets us apart will be the partnership with convention centers and expos. Would love to have exclusive rights to advertising on tours and packages inside the conventions so that my company is the only tour agency that can target the people visiting. Since expos happen all year round, there would be no off season. Attendance at expos are huge so if a lot of people choose to do a tour with us, the cost can be something that can be significantly lower than other agencies as well.

feedback memo:
After reading up on my peers feedback, I think I realized that I was limiting my business only to the Asian demographic. I should not limit the company to only Asians but convention goers from all over the world. I can't say that I agree with some of the feedback I got, but I think they all made good points and definitely gave me insight on how to better the company. For instance, Quintinomentioned that it needs more marketing so I put in a plan to work with convention centers/expos around the states to work with them on upcoming shows and advertise in those conventions. I know exclusivity is probably a push but if I can have that, that would definitely increase the number of people that will hear about the company.

  1. I love this idea! Traveling to new places is exciting but if you are unfamiliar with the area it can be intimidating or overwhelming, and they might find it difficult to go out and explore the area. It would be neat to have a test market to see how well your business works with businessmen and women from Asia. You can see how the company performs and receive feedback from consumers, then you can think about targeting other demographics!

  2. Fantastic idea Kim!

Growing up overseas, I spent a lot of my time traveling places for business conference etc, and I can definitely relate to the time being in the hotel unsure of what to do because everything is so foreign to you. Having a business like this could not only be super profitable, but it would allow so many people to see places they've never seen before. I look forward to hearing more about this!
