Week 9 Reading Reflection

One of the biggest surprises from this week’s reading assignment from Kuratko for me was the impact of social media on marketing. The part about how mobiles devices and other portable devices being within ease of access and the connection with the social media. It seems like they changed the landscape of marketing all together. The Four I’s, the strategy to help grasp customers was very interesting as well. Integration, individualization, involving, and initiating with customers through social media sounds and seems like it will be something all firms have to capitalize on, in order to be a successful organization.

I don’t think there was anything in this chapter that was confusing to me. However, I do have a question that I would like to ask Kuratko. The question is aimed at type of survey techniques and the list that is on the textbook. He lists several ways to obtain answers from surveys and they all seem effective, however, one stood out to me, and it seemed very outdated and useless. When I continued to look at the information though, it was just what I thought it would be like. Poor cooperation, high non-response rate, and slow data collection. So, the question I would like the author is, how long will that method be in effect for? It seems like there are other methods that are far more effective and with the rise of mobile phones and social media, I would think the cost would be low as well.

Overall, this chapter was easy to understand and was very interesting. Seeing the types of marketing and the way the landscape for marketing has changed made this chapter a very good read. I don’t think the author had anything that was wrong or anything I disagree about but if I had to pinpoint one thing, it would be that the cost of mail survey is the cheapest. I think some marketing content on social media might be as low and or even lower than that of sending mails to everyone.

Overall very informative chapter and a interesting chapter.
